Amsterdam Forest

The Amsterdams Forest (Amsterdamse Bos) is a recreation area situated south-west of Amsterdam.

It was founded approx. 85 years ago, originally designed as an English landscape park, mixed with German city park characteristics.

Although the park is owned by the city of Amsterdam, the majority of it lies within the municipality of Amstelveen, a suburb of Amsterdam.

The size is 1,000 hectares, approx. 3 times New York’s Central Park.

The Amsterdam Forest is  very popular amongst the citizens of the Amsterdam agglomeration. Apart from relaxing, there are numerous sporting facilities for a.o. walking, cycling, rowing, horse riding, cricket, hockey, etc. The Amsterdamse Forest attracts over 6 million visitors yearly. But due its size, there are always quiet areas, even on busy sunny weekend days.

Elder people with limited physical abilities can make a splendid tour in the forest in half-open electrically powered vehicles.
